Akili Nickson's litigation practice focuses on federal and state criminal defense, complex civil and public interest litigation, state and local administrative proceedings, governmental ethics investigations and civil rights litigation.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Nickson served for nine years as a Deputy City Attorney with the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, where he tried more than 100 jury trials, served as a Neighborhood Prosecutor and brought major civil enforcement actions on behalf of the People and the City. He received Certificates of Recognition from the Los Angeles City Council and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for outstanding dedication and service as a prosecutor.

Mr. Nickson previously served as an Appellate Attorney with the Las Vegas District Attorney’s Office and was a litigation associate with Morrison and Foerster LLP.

Mr. Nickson served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Johnnie B. Rawlinson, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and a Judicial Extern for The Honorable Martin J. Jenkins, United States District Court, San Francisco.

While in law school, Mr. Nickson worked at the Office of the Chief Counsel, National Aeronautics and Space Administration ("NASA"). He received the NASA Ames Honor Award, NASA’s most prestigious award and highest honor, and the NASA Spotlight Award for outstanding legal research and memoranda of law on complex issues.
